Country of Origin: Turkey. Sultana raisin is named after the town of Sultania, located in the Crimean peninsula; however, as of today, the greater quantity is produced in Turkey. Turkish sultana raisin grows in the area of Izmir, certainly one of the most famous areas.
Harvest season: September.
The drying process is carried out naturally, thanks to the rays of the sun, and this is why this raisin is so typically dark. This dark color is indeed a way to identify Sultana raisin in the marketplace.
Thanks to the high concentration of sugars, carbohydrates and especially mineral salts (iron and potassium), sultana raisin is highly recommended to sportsmen, as it supplies useful substances for workouts. It is an excellent toning substance and a refill of the substances usually lost when training.
A regular use of sultana raisin helps keep a regular intestine. Raisin contains oleonolic acid, a powerful anti-inflammatory substance that provides protection against dental caries and it prevents the growth of harmful bacteria, which cause periodontal diseases and gengivitis.
