Chestnuts are conventionally treated with a natural treatement. They are stored in drying warehouses with two floors: in the first floor heaters burn chestnuts skins, left from the previous drying process; at first floor fresh chestnuts are put on nets and then sometimes turned with a rake.
Chestnuts have a high energy content, they are indeed a nutritious and energetic food. Rich in starchs and mineral salts (potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, sodium, iron, calcium). They contribute to the balance of the nervuous system and they strenghten muscles and bones. They also contain vitamin B, folic acid, sugars, cellulose. Recommended as food substitute for lactose or cereals intolerant people.
